On 26-27 May 2010, RA General Prosecutor’s Office jointly with EU European Commission has organized a Workshop “The role of prosecution in the fight against corruption, including criminal policy” at Ani Plaza in accordance with the application sent to TAIEX instrument.

With the integration of European Neighbourhood Policy the Republic of Armenia has undertaken the responsibility of implementing the measures specified in it. ENP also includes implementation of a number of measures related to legal reform.

The main objective of the program is to improve the RA legal system, partly:
-To provide fair and impartial justice;
-To reduce the risks of corruption;
-To improve the implementation of judicial acts;
-To provide the availability, effectiveness and transparency of justice;
-To improve the legislation and strategy of legal system.

According to 5.1 point of the program of Strategic activities of 2009-2011 judicial-legal reforms and the list of measures issued from that program in the scope of bringing the domestic legislation in correspondence with the EU standards it is foreseen to do drafting/elaboration on the RA Law “On Amendments On Prosecutor’s Office”.

The workshop aims to discuss the problematic issues regarding the definition of criminal policy, reduction of corruption risks, creation of new effective remedies for human’s legal protection, role of prosecution in the mentioned fields, implementation of the mechanisms of prosecution’s authority with the presentation of EU standards by the international experts and representatives from beneficiary bodies, partially discussing
– how to increase the effectiveness of the judicial system,
– how to combat corruption and other illicit activity by authorities and the role of Prosecution in that process
– the role of Prosecutor outside the criminal field
– how to define the criminal policy
– how to provide remedies for parties in order to receive compensation for damage
– how to adjust the conditions of initiating and instituting proceedings of the prosecutor

Beneficiary representatives of legislative, executive and judicial branches, other national and international structures took part in this workshop.
In the result of the application in the scope of TAIEX instrument EU European Commission implemented an Assessment Mission in Armenia from January 31 to 3 February 2011, aiming to continue the implementation of the project, its objectives and the approximation of the legislation on Prosecution to EU standard by means of viewing and assessing the relevant legislation in the context of European standards.

The Assessment Mission had an important role in the process of legislative elaboration and helped to assess the problems of national legislation, disclose the issues which need solution in the fields of criminal policy definition, reduction of corruption risks, creation of new effective remedies for human’s legal protection, assessment of the role of prosecution in the context of EU standards, etc.
In the result of the implemented Assessment Mission international experts prepared a Report.
